HealthQuest’s summer campers enjoyed a fun and educational week of camp meeting many heroes in the local community.
Tuesday featured a visit by officers from the Readington Township Police Department and, Ronan, a department K9 dog. The children, mostly ages 3-5, learned about how the department utilizes their K9 Unit and got to see Ronan show off some of his police dog skills.
On Wednesday, sailors from MacGuire Air Force Base took campers through a mini boot camp teaching them the importance of physical fitness. The visiting sailors also had the opportunity to share lunch with the camp children and discuss their job in protecting the nation. All of HealthQuest joined in support of this special day as a collection of essential travel items were donated by HealthQuest Members to support Liberty USO, a charity created to help get troops essential care packages.
Thursday saw a New Jersey State Police medical helicopter land in the field behind HealthQuest. Campers greeted the officers who taught the campers about the helicopter and why it is such an important tool for the New Jersey State Police. Campers then got an up-close look at a New Jersey State Police car.
The week concluded with a visit from the Raritan Township Fire Company. Firefighters taught campers some important fire safety tips. Campers also got a tour of the fire trucks and tested their spraying skills by firing the water hoses at designated targets.
HealthQuest and its campers are grateful for the all the heroes in the local community and send special thanks the departments that participated in making Everyday Heroes camp uniquely fun and educational.
